About the Wallet
The Zamorai wallet was born out of a beautiful accident. I bumped into its designed one day when recycling leather. I took an early prototype of the Groningen Wallet and cut its flap to recycle a piece of that prototype and I immediately fell in love with the wallet without the flap. I stared at it for a while and thought out loud, “I got something new here!” I took that broken half of the wallet and started thinking on ways to make this my next project. After brainstorming, many designs, prototypes, I landed on my new favorite wallet. The Zamorai.
Features
The wallet has a total of 4+ compartments. The front hosts a quick access card slot to carry your most used card. Just behind this slot, you find two internal pockets divided with a floating piece of leather. This floating design allows you to decide how many cards you wish to carry in the front or in the back of such divider. I personally carry 1 card in the card slot, 4 cards in the pocket behind it, and 2 cards behind the internal divider.
Now lets move to the cash compartment. It is quick access via a very satisfying two snap buttons closure. These snap buttons allows you to always have your cash super secure, and yet allow you to see all your cash clearly when you spread open the compartment. The reason why I said 4+ compartments before its because this cash compartment comes with a cash divider. I use it to put bills of higher value in the back side of that divider and the smaller bills in the front. I personally carry 5 bills folded in haves. 2 in the back side and 3 in the front side of the leather divider. These compartments can hold bills folded in halves or in thirds, depending on your currency size (USD, and Euro sizes up to 50 euro bill can fit in halves. Larger bills must be folded in thirds). Capacity depends on how many times you must fold your bills. At the beginning 5 bills in halves is enough. But as the leather stretches, I am sure you could fit more, maybe up to 10 bills. This wallet is a minimalist, card focus wallet. If you are someone who loves using cash, I recommend the Zela, Utila, Griffin, Lempira, and other wallets on my site.
Leather tab + Paracord + beads?
The wallet comes standard with an antique brass grommet. But you can add a paracord, a bead, or even two beads to it with a note at checkout. I admit, the beads are there to complete the look, makes the wallet looks pretty. But the Tab in combination of the paracord have also a little extra functionality: 1) it allows you to pull your wallet off from your pocket easier. 2) if you are someone who are concern about the safety of the cards in the middle compartments, or are a bit chaotic, or are traveling to a less safe place, you could wrap the paracord around the wallet to make sure it is a little harder for those internal pockets to let the cards exit. All pockets are protected this way when sandwiching the wallet with the paracord. You could also secure just the frontal pockets when wrapping the paracord around the snap buttons and securing them with the snap closure. And there is one more way to secure only one pocket: the front or the back pocket in the internal pocket by just using the small leather tab. Remove the paracord and tuck-in the leather tab into one of the pockets covering the cards in that compartment. You got options. You can also forget about all this and just enjoy the beauty of the paracord with the beads. Photos of this wallet above with the black and natural colors show some of the options.
Stitching
The wallet has only one row of saddle stitching. It has 4 reinforcement points that wraps around the edge of the wallet for extra safety, plus extra pretty look.
Cut-out in Top Right Corner
Access to card holder wallets can be difficult sometimes. This sloped cutout exposes the corner of your cards barely, but it is crucial for helping you grab the desired card when fidgeting them with your fingers.
Leather: the leather is full grain leather from top Italian tanneries. The thickness of the leather is about 1.5mm. Please see the last photos above for colors and types.
Thread: 1mm, waxed, flat, polyester thread. Good quality. See colors in the last photos above.
Size: About 82mm wide, 117mm tall (95mm excluding the leather tab), about 20mm (13mm excluding the snap buttons).
Capacity: About 8 cards and 5 bills. Maybe a bit more when leather stretches with time.
